10 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Organ Meats

Posted by PrimalRx Team on

There are many questions and misconceptions about organ meats.  Here are the 10 most common we hear in our travels:

1. Are organ meats healthy to eat?

Yes, organ meats are among the most nutrient-dense foods available, packed with vitamins A, B12, iron, zinc, copper, and CoQ10.

2. Which organ meats are the most nutritious?

Liver is typically the most nutrient-rich, especially beef or chicken liver. Other nutrient-dense options include heart (high in CoQ10), kidney (rich in selenium), and spleen (high in iron).

3. Is eating liver dangerous due to vitamin A toxicity?

Vitamin A toxicity is rare, but possible - if consumed in extremely large quantities, and very frequently.  But occasional servings per week (e.g., liver once or twice per week), or daily supplementation in small amounts (e.g. Bovine Liver, 3 caps/day) are absolutely safe - and encouraged!

4. How often should you eat organ meats?

1–3 times per week is a common guideline. Frequency depends on the type of organ, your nutrient needs, and overall diet.

5. What do organ meats taste like?

Liver is earthy and metallic; heart is meaty and lean; kidney and tripe have stronger, more gamey or rubbery flavors. Cooking methods affect taste greatly.

6. How do I cook organ meats to make them taste better?

Soaking in milk or lemon water can reduce strong odors. Grilling, pan-frying, braising, or blending into dishes (like pâté or meatloaf) are popular ways to improve taste and texture.

7. Are organ meats safe to eat raw?

When not properly sourced and prepared, raw consumption can carry risks of parasites or bacteria. Sourcing from trusted, high-quality farms and freezing first reduces risk.

8. Do organ meats help with energy, hormones, or libido?

Anecdotal and some scientific evidence suggests organ meats support energy, testosterone, thyroid health, and fertility due to their micronutrient content (zinc, B12, selenium, vitamin A).

9. Can organ meats help with anemia or nutrient deficiencies?

Yes—especially liver and spleen, which are excellent sources of bioavailable iron, B12, and folate, key nutrients for treating anemia.

10. Are organ meats okay on keto, paleo, or carnivore diets?

Absolutely. Organ meats are encouraged in all three due to their nutrient density, especially in nose-to-tail eating frameworks.

As you can see, many of these questions revolve around the preparation and consuming of actual organ meats.  Though we’d love everyone to partake in that behavior (because it’s perfectly safe and healthy), we know this is uncommon in the modern world, and particular Western Culture.

That’s why we’ve taken away the inconvenience and unfamiliarity, and created PrimalRx.  So you can enjoy all of the health benefits mentioned above, without all the hassle…
